Migrating to Windows Vista

Does anyone have any plans to migrate their public / private Microsoft Windows XP clients to Microsoft Vista?

If so what are the timescales?

What processes do you intend to follow?

Are you planning on using imaging?

Or are you planning on waiting and sticking with XP? possibly skipping Vista all together?

Thought I would get the ball rolling and open a dialogue on this subject....

There are plans for us to move to a vista desktop hopefully next summer once we migrate all the backend servers from novell to microsoft we will also go with office 2007 at the same time, we are currently over the next year or so updating the hardware to be able to run vista on the desktop with at least some performance increase (not holding my breath, lol ) we have been looking at microsoft's system center configuration manager 2007 to be able to do the imaging and desktop application/policy delivery but this is all very new to me as we currently use Novell's Zenworks which does it all for you in one package, this will be a big learning curve for us on the backend as well as for our users using the new Vista desktops

Hi,

We are seeing a lot of customers starting to look at Vista now. There is a lot of testing going on for application compatability and most customers are looking at using WDS, or MDT to deploy Vista.

We also have several customers fully on Vista now and they are very happy with it. These sites have had the benefit of cash to enable them to be early adopters, but they have proven good test beds and it does look like they are very happy.

As another potential converstation topic, we are also seeing customers moving to Widnows Server 2008 and planning both Vista and 2008 side by side deployments.
